Cork Harbour Open Day

The See You in Cobh Committee is delighted to be a part of the second annual Cork Harbour Open Day on Saturday 4th September. We are holding a Crab Fishing Competition on the Promenade in Cobh Town Centre from 3.00 pm – 4.30 pm. This area is teeming with crabs and children of all ages should have a great time. A line, bait and bucket will be supplied and there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
The entry fee is just €1.

Dancing Thru’ the Ages to wow Cobh audience

On 29th August next, See You in Cobh is delighted to host the highly acclaimed “Dancing Thru the Ages” music and dance extravaganza in the Commodore Hotel at 8.30pm.
Dancing Thru the Ages showcases the ancestral legacy of Irish culture and tradition with an exciting contemporary one without losing the spirit and exuberance so associated with the Irish style of music and dance. This spine-tingling show has wowed audiences of all ages and all nationalities, both on a national and international level, since its inception in 2004. Capturing the essence of Irish culture, the show will captivate and excite like no other. With its eclectic mix of world class musicians, singers and dancers, this is one experience not to be missed. The show features internationally renowned singers and dancers from shows such as River Dance, Lord of the Dance and Cobh's own voice of an Angel, Caroline Fraher.
Tickets costing just €20 are now available from the Commodore Hotel in Cobh.

Liner Visits to Cobh

Over fifty cruise liners will visit Cobh in 2010, bringing thousands of visitors to our shores!

A truly amazing spectacle to behold, the liners are always welcomed to Cobh with fun and festivities. Commemorative Events in Cobh

 

Spike Island – Raising of the Tricolour.

In July 1938, Taoiseach Eamon De Valera, raised the Irish Tricolour on Spike Island for the first time, as part of the Treaty Ports handover by the British. This historical event is re-enacted in July.

 

The Titanic Commemorative Weekend in April.

On 11 April 1912 Cobh (formerly Queenstown) was the final port of call for the RMS Titanic. Cobh commemorates the tragedy of the sinking of the Titanic each year. The ceremony generally commences with a parade on 12th April from the Gallery Clock Tower to the Titanic Memorial in Pearse Square.

 

The Lusitania Commemorative Weekend in May.

The ill-fated Lusitania also has a tragic association with Cobh. The RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German U-Boat off the Old Head of Kinsale on May 7, 1915. The survivors were brought to Cobh, and over one hundred victims lie buried in the Old Church Cemetery about a mile north of the town. Cobh commemorates the tragedy of the sinking of the Lusitania each year.

 

Carillion Recitals at St Colman’s Cathedral

The 49-bell Carillon of St. Colman's Cathedral in Cobh is the only such instrument in this country and is the largest in Ireland and Britain. Free hour-long recitals will take place on Sundays at 4.30 p.m. from May to September and are usually given by Adrian Gebruers KSG, Cathedral Carillonneur. Guest recitals this summer, by leading international carillonneur, as follows:

St. Patrick’s Day in Cobh

Every year, on 17th March, the people of Cobh celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a lively parade through the town and an afternoon of fun and frolics. The event includes country markets, arts and crafts and kids activities.
